Michael Giacchino, un Oscar a la creatividad

Repasando lo (in)justa gala de los Oscars del último año, quizá lo más destacable no sea la aparición de Bent Stiller, el número de danza o The Hurt Locker. Lo más destacable es ese premio de la Academia al compositor Michael Giacchino por Up. Su genial banda sonora vino con un discurso no menos genial sobre la creatividad:

When I was nine and I asked my dad, "Can I have your movie camera? That old, wind-up 8 millimeter camera that was in your drawer?" And he goes, "Sure, take it." And I took it and I started making movies with it and I started being as creative as I could, and never once in my life did my parents ever say, "What you're doing is a waste of time." Never. And I grew up, I had teachers, I had colleagues, I had people that I worked with all through my life who always told me what you're doing is not a waste of time. So that was normal to me that it was OK to do that. I know there are kids out there that don't have that support system so if you're out there and you're listening, listen to me: If you want to be creative, get out there and do it. It's not a waste of time. Do it. OK? Thank you.

Cuando tenía nueve años y pregunté a mi padre, "¿Puedo tener tu cámara? Esa vieja cámara de 8 mm que está en tu cajón?" Y entonces él, "Por supuesto, cógela". La cogí y empecé a hacer películas con ella y empecé a ser todo lo creativo que podía, y nunca en mi vida escuché a mis padres decir "Lo que estás haciendo es una pérdida de tiempo". Nunca. Y crecí, tuve profesores, compañeros y gente con la que trabajé durante toda mi vida que siempre me decía que lo que hacía no era una pérdida de tiempo. Esto era lo normal para mí, y pensé que estaba bien hacerlo. Sé que hay niños ahí fuera que no tienen este soporte, por lo que si estás ahí fuera y estás escuchando, escúchame: Si quieres ser creativo, sal ahí y hazlo. No es una pérdida de tiempo. Hazlo. Ok? Gracias.
