Tráfico inservible
En 2010 he bajado claramente el ritmo de publicación. Incluso estuve casi 5 días sin mirar mi Google Analytics de Audiencias. Eso para un adicto como yo es comparable con otro tipo de adicciones como una semana sin fumar, sin café, o cientos de comparaciones más agresivas en las que no voy a entrar. Y sin embargo, el promedio de visitas no se ha visto resentido: 350 visitas // día de promedio en 2009… Y ahora 370 visitas // día!!
Un analista debe mirar esto con atención. Y crear conjeturas previas en su cabeza para establecer los objetivos de 2010:
La postura del soberbio (Absurda, seguro que no analiza)
Soy un monstruo. He creado un site que vive de las rentas del pasado. El SEO me hace mantener un Long Tail de contenidos que siguen interesando. Este año a mantener y poco más.
La postura del derrotista (Tampoco es eso)
Puf!!! Pues vaya. Me he matado para que todo siga igual (incluso crece) y no me penaliza la falta de contenidos interesantes. Lo dejo porque pretendía otra cosa.
La postura del Analista (Vamos a ver qué pasa)
Hazte preguntas:
¿Tenía identificado del promedio real de vistas cuántas era productivas y cuantas inservibles?¿Puedo comparar entre ambos periodos?
¿Cómo ha afectado realmente la bajada de producción a mis visitas en términos cualitativos?
Visitas Reales
Una métrica que debería estar en la mente de cualquier analista debería ser aquella que hable de las visitas reales. Es decir, aquellas que hayan mostrado un mínimo de empatía con tu contenido. El volumen en la red es altamente engañoso, pues a tu site entran diariamente miles (en mi caso cientos) de usuarios que pasaban por ahí como consecuencia de algo, pero mi propuesta web no era la que esperaban. Esa visita, contabilizada desde un punto de vista cuantitativo, debería obviarse en un plano cualitativo.
En mi caso, por ejemplo, tengo definido informes de segmentación para definir lo que considero tráfico inservible. Pero OJO! Que aquí entran los objetivos que tenga cada site. A determinados sites, puede que el tráfico inservible les vaya bien, pues alcancen rendimientos de impresiones óptimos y eficaces, ya sea por adsense o por impresiones. No obstante, cualquier analista web dedebería ir un pasito más allá y saber, aunque sea sólo para él, cuanta gente de verdad muestra grados de empatía y cuantos pasaban por ahí.
De este modo en 2009, mis visitas diarias reales efectivas (al no tener publicidad, me interesa medir el engagement de la gente con mis contenidos) eran de este modo:
En 2010, aunque crezca en tráfico, desciendo en interés:
De este modo, ya sé que crezco en visitas, pero no de aquellas que me interesan. Para lograr esto, es importante que cada uno personalice sus informes en virtud de lo que pretenda con su site.
Segmenta la visita:
Muchas veces he dicho que el cuadro o informe que más me gusta es el de entrada de usuario. La primera segmentación siempre ha de nacer de ahí. Cada unidad: Directo, Buscadores o Referrer te indica algo. Y con determinadas métricas combinadas te dice mucho más.
En mi caso, el entramado nace de un histórico de % que luego alimentan la cifra total. Segmento por Directo y le quito aquellas visitas que de media diaria hago yo al blog. Le añadiré luego aquellas vinculadas a KeyWord brand, pero lo hago desde buscadores, ya que lo quiero sacar es una cifra orientativa. En referrer, me sólo mantengo aquellas visitas que superan la estancia de 40 segundos y no me abonan de primeras. Y en buscadores juego con las palabras clave y las métricas anteriores para determinar tráfico válido en virtud de las métricas anteriores. Al final sale algo así, respaldado por % históricos de más de un año.
Para los sites de contenidos este tipo de indicadores debería ser vital, ya que se pueden tomar muchas decisiones de negocio incentivado por crecimientos mal interpretados. La audiencia cada vez es mayor y seguirá creciendo conforme a la penetración de la red y los volúmenes de páginas indexadas. La gente busca palabras clave de lo más insospechadas y Google ofrece destinos peculiares en muchos casos. Por lo que si de verdad uno quiere saber a quién llega realmente con su mensaje, debería tener en cuenta el volumen, pero mucho más la pegada real. Crea tu cuadro, con Google Anlytics y sus filtros avanzados es muy fácil.
