El caso es que en su día me di cuenta y me escamó... pero no reparé en las intenciones de Black Hat y no hicimos nada al respecto.

Eso realmente no es tan burro, no es Black hat, sólo es una persona que se aprovecha de lo que los demás no saben, eso son link ninjas y no es tan diferente a meter un link dentro de un widget que hayas generado ;)
También se suele hacer con las plantillas de los blogs, metes un bloque de enlaces, lo codificas con base 64 y listo, la gente no lo vé al revisar el código fuente y puedes hacer que únicamente se muestre para google.
